Soprano Tom Ogden said at a screening of “Fog of War” that he doesn't feel comfortable singing in the official anthem of the state of Israel.
At a film screening for Fog of War, a documentary about prisoners of war from the second world war who are still alive today, Ogden noted that Israel "has been in conflict over a number of decades now."
Referring to Israel's rejection of international calls for a ceasefire and the killing of civilians, he said that it is difficult to sing in an anthem that has been built by occupation.
"Israel has been in conflict, further resistance, enlightenment and enlightenment music can only lead to further opposition and resistance," he said, adding that "people are listening to their grandparents' songs. How else would you get something like this to be an anthem?"
